Southeast Oahu Attractions

Both historic and contemporary, the east end of Oahu holds within its relatively small area a remarkable variety including picture-perfect scenery of windswept cliffs and wave-dashed shores.
Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve
The exterior wall of a volcanic crater collapsed, opening it to the sea, which gave birth to Oahu’s most famous snorkeling destination. The picturesque bay is horseshoe shaped and the aqua blue water is so clear you can easily see the coral reefs. To preserve the area, visitors are required to go through the Bay’s Education Center before trekking down to the Bay.
Shangri La
On the far side of Diamond Head sits a home that was once inhabited by the famously wealthy heiress, Doris Duke. In 1936, Duke bought five acres at Black Point, (down the coast from Waikiki) and began to build and furnish her first home. For more than 50 years, the home was always a work in progress as Doris traveled the world buying furnishings and works of art. Duke herself literally trimmed the tiles and painted the panels of the Turkish room with the help of her houseman. This sought-after tour begins at the Honolulu Academy of Arts and ends at the Duke house on Diamond Head.
